(Laval) Mitchell Stephens scored late in the third period for the second straight game on Saturday, but this time the Laval Rocket then lost in a shootout, 2-1 to the Rockford IceHogs.
With the Rocket trailing 1-0, Stephens eventually tied the game with 45 seconds left in the third period, after goaltender Cayden Primeau was replaced with an extra forward. Stephens took advantage of a loose puck at the mouth of the net after a long shot from Nicolas Beaudin to beat Arvid Soderblom.
However, Morgan Adams-Moisan broke the deadlock in the 11e shootout round, allowing the IceHogs to end a three-game losing streak.
Pavel Gogolev opened the scoring at 9:03 of the first period for the IceHogs. Soderblom was smoking hot, making 44 saves.
For his part, Primeau stopped 27 shots in front of the Rocket net, which had won its two previous games.
Stephens played the same trick at the Rochester Americans on Friday, scoring the tying goal with the goaltender on the bench in favor of an extra forward. Anthony Richard then gave the Rocket the victory in overtime.
This time the IceHogs were able to bounce back and save themselves with the win.
