The veteran actor’s adopted daughter, Drena De Niro, announced on Instagram Sunday evening that her son had passed away.

“My beautiful angel. I have loved you beyond words or description since the moment I felt you in my womb. You have been my joy, my heart and all that has been pure and real in my life, she wrote alongside a photo of Leandro. I would like to be with you right now. I would like to be with you. I don’t know how to live without you, but I will try to carry on and spread the love and the light that you made me feel by becoming your mom. You were so deeply loved and appreciated and I wish love alone could save you. I’m so sorry baby, I’m so sorry @carlosmare. Rest in peace and in eternal paradise, my darling boy.

The young woman subsequently received condolences in the comments of her message.

Rosie Perez wrote: “Shocked! I am so sorry! We are all here for you!!! I love you so much!”, while director Lee Daniels added: “Drena may GOD keep you in his arms”.

Drena De Niro did not reveal further details about her son’s death.

During his marriage to Diahnne Abbott, the actor of Taxi Driver adopted Drena, the latter’s daughter from a previous relationship. She is the eldest of her seven children.

Leandro followed his grandfather and mother into acting, with small appearances in A Star Is Born, The Collection And Maxim Cabaret.
