Robert Charlebois charges “Star Academy” and “The Voice”

This Monday, December 18, 2023, Valérie Expert and Gilles Ganzmann received Robert Charlebois on the airwaves of South Radio. The opportunity for the 79-year-old Quebec singer-songwriter and musician to discuss two of the most popular telecrochets: The star Academy

And The Voice. Shows which, according to the artist, are not always positive for the candidates, many of whom will see their dreams shattered.

“It’s like pulling on a flower to make it grow faster.”he confided before qualifying his remarks. “It’s not necessarily bad that he does that, it gives them more experience, but there are 1 in 100 who will make a career.” And to continue: “We teach them how to get in a limousine and most of the time they leave on skateboards. There’s a voyeuristic and a bit cruel side! We teach them everything they need to do to be a star, but we don’t don’t teach them to say ‘good evening’.”

Robert Charlebois cash on rap

During his interview, Robert Charlebois also tackled a musical genre very popular with younger music lovers: rap. “I don’t really like it”he said before explaining that it was music good for “convey hatred”. “It’s made for people who don’t like music because there’s no melody, it’s always the same tempo”. Despite his strong opinion on the issue, the artist assures that he is “difficult to make good rap”. For him, this is all a question of generation. A speech which provoked strong reactions.

Any genre or style of music can be used to convey hatred. Not just rap”, wrote a visibly angry Internet user. And another to add: “You just don’t understand anything about music, poor thing”. Robert Charlebois is not going to make only friends…
