Roberge unveils the basics of the new course “Culture and citizenship of Quebec”

The new program, which makes a clean sweep of the Ethics and Religious Culture (ECR) course, will focus on three main themes: citizenship, culture and the development of critical thinking.

It will be rolled out gradually and on a voluntary basis from the start of the 2022 school year before being implemented throughout the network, both in elementary and secondary schools, in September 2023, announced the Minister of Education, Jean-François Roberge.

He presented on Sunday the broad outlines of the course which will bear the name of “Culture and citizenship of Quebec”. This will cover a variety of subjects. Mr. Roberge assured that the different concepts will not be discussed each year, but according to the age and development of the child in order to deepen them.

The drafting of the program is in progress and a process will be initiated to validate the content. By the time the course is rolled out, teachers will be entitled to training, the minister promised.
