Robbie Ray arouses lust

The Los Angeles Angels would love to get their hands on Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Robbie Ray, it seems.

This is what the MLB Network said on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old is a free agent, but the Jays have given him a one-season qualifying offer worth $ 18.4 million. That means the California side would have to hand over draft picks to the Toronto club if Ray ever accepts a proposal from the Angels.

The southpaw had a strong 2021 campaign, notably maintaining the best points allowed average (2.84) in American League Baseball. He also went 13-7 and had 284 strikeouts, a major-league high.

The Baseball Writers’ Association of America reported on Monday that Ray was one of three finalists for the Cy-Young Trophy in the American.

The Angels are also reportedly interested in Eduardo Rodriguez of the Boston Red Sox. He is in the same contractual situation as Ray.

The Los Angeles team is looking for solutions for their pitching staff. Last season, the Angels gunners finished with the sixth-worst earned-run average (4.78) in major league baseball. The club have also missed the playoffs in the last seven seasons.
