(Toronto) Robbie Bachman, co-founder and drummer of the Canadian band Bachman-Turner Overdrive, has died at the age of 69.
Her older brother, Randy, shared the news on Twitter on Friday.
Robin Bachman was on drums on the Megahits Takin’Care of Business and You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yethelping to establish BTO as a staple of Canadian music in the 1970s.
Born in Winnipeg, “Robbie” began his career shortly after his brother Randy quit the Guess Who in 1970 and formed a new band, Brave Belt, offering his 18-year-old brother the job of drummer.
The band would later change their name to Bachman-Turner Overdrive.
After years of the band’s success, the eldest Randy would eventually leave BTO and the two brothers would become embroiled in a number of legal disputes over use of the name.
Despite this breakup, the two brothers reunited in 2014 when BTO was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the Juno Awards Gala in Winnipeg.
