Interior Minister Gerald Darmanintraveling to Corsica since February 18, wants to toughen the penalties for driving under narcotics. “I propose the withdrawal of the 12 points from the driving license for anyone who drives while using drugs”he says. Today, a driver under drugs loses only six points, except during a recidivism.
20% of road accidents involve drivers under narcotics
Gerald Darmanin now offers immediate license withdrawal. The penalty therefore becomes more severe for drug-driving than for alcohol consumption. Another proposal from the minister: increase the number of road checks from 800,000 to one million per year. A proposal welcomed by the associations which also demand more prevention. In France, 20% of road accidents involve drivers under narcotics.
