Road network | Several traffic disruptions this weekend

The Île-aux-Tourtes bridge as well as the Ville-Marie and Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnels will be road areas to avoid as much as possible this weekend, due to the heavy congestion expected.

This was indicated on Thursday by Mobilité Montréal, the committee responsible for coordinating major works in the metropolitan region.

First, as announced in recent days, the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge will have to be closed for two weekends during the month of September, due to the construction of the drainage network that will serve the new bridge by 2026.

In short, the first weekend will take place from Friday evening to Monday morning. The second is still scheduled for September 20 to 23.

In downtown Montreal, meanwhile, the Ville-Marie Expressway will be completely closed between exit 5 leading to the Samuel-De Champlain Bridge and the entrance to Lucien-L’Allier Street, from Friday evening to Monday morning.

The entrances to Avenue de l’Hôtel-de-Ville, Rue Sanguinet and Rue Saint-Antoine Est will also be closed by default. Quebec anticipates “significant risks” of congestion in the surrounding area, and asks motorists to opt for alternative routes if possible.

As for the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel, it will be closed in both directions, between exit 90 in Longueuil and exit 4 in Montreal, during the nights of Friday and Saturday. Trucks are invited to use Notre-Dame Street East, via Pie-IX Boulevard North and Sherbrooke Street.

On the municipal network, De Lorimier Avenue will have to be closed for the entire weekend in the northbound direction, at Sainte-Catherine Street. However, one lane will be maintained in the southbound direction, as will the right turn lane towards De Maisonneuve Boulevard.

Further west, the Honoré-Mercier Bridge should also experience some disruptions at night, with various ramps having to be temporarily closed towards Montreal, Châteauguay and La Prairie.

On the South Shore, in Longueuil, the entrance to Saint-Charles Street West for Route 134-East Route 132 in both directions will be blocked from Saturday to Monday morning.

Finally, notice to residents of Brossard and the surrounding area: starting next Tuesday at 11 p.m., the Ministry of Transport will close access to Route 132-East towards Longueuil from Marie-Victorin and Provencher boulevards, as well as the Highway 10 ramps in both directions.
