Road accident | A woman loses her life in Saint-Narcisse

A 34-year-old woman lost her life in Saint-Narcisse on Sunday following a serious road accident which also left three injured. The driver at fault was impaired by drugs.

The accident occurred early Sunday afternoon on Route 359, which connects the St. Lawrence River inland, in Mauricie. The straight road, with one lane in each direction, crosses fields and woods. At Saint-Narcisse, a driver deviated from her lane. Finding herself in the opposite direction, she made a violent face-to-face with another car.

Three women were in the second car. One of them, a 34-year-old passenger seated in the back of the vehicle, was taken to hospital in critical condition, according to information from Béatrice Dorsainville, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ). . She later succumbed to her injuries. The drivers of the two vehicles, as well as another passenger, all received minor injuries.

The offending driver was arrested by police for driving while impaired by drugs. She has since been released and could face charges later, says Stéphane Tremblay, public relations officer for the SQ.

The Ministry of Transport of Quebec (MTQ) was called and a bypass was established on Sunday to allow traffic. An SQ reconstructionist was dispatched to the scene to try to understand the circumstances of the collision.
