The accident occurred early Sunday afternoon on Route 359, which connects the St. Lawrence River inland, in Mauricie. The straight road, with one lane in each direction, crosses fields and woods. At the height of Saint-Narcisse, a driver deviated from her lane for a still unknown reason. Finding herself in the opposite direction, she made a violent face-to-face with another car.
Three women were in the second car. A 30-year-old passenger in the back of the vehicle suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital in critical condition, according to information from Béatrice Dorsainville, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec. The drivers of the two vehicles, as well as another passenger, all received minor injuries.
The Ministère des Transports du Québec (MTQ) was called and a bypass was established to allow traffic. An SQ reconstructionist was dispatched to the scene to try to understand the circumstances of the collision.
