In correspondence sent to all its customers and obtained by AFP, the group’s boss, RJ Scaringe, indicates that on “a small percentage” of vehicles, a steering attachment has “not been sufficiently adjusted”, this which can “in rare circumstances” cause management to lose control.
The manufacturer has so far noted seven incidents of this type, without any injuries apparently.
“The safety of our customers will always be our priority and we are committed to fixing this issue as quickly as possible on any affected vehicle,” the company said in the voluntary recall, which will be officially released by traffic safety agency NHTSA on Saturday.
The repair can be done “in a few minutes” and the group claims to have developed the ability to remedy this defect on all vehicles “in the space of thirty days”.
“If you hear excessive noise, vibration or harshness in the front suspension or a change in steering performance, call us immediately,” the president’s letter further states.
The recall is the third for the new maker of electric SUVs and pickup trucks, which has produced some 14,000 vehicles so far this year, with a goal of producing 25,000 for all of 2022.
Two other less substantial recalls affected 500 vehicles in the spring for an airbag problem and 200 others in August for a seat belt issue.
