For several years, the inhabitants of the Los Puentes sector, in the municipality, have become accustomed to the appearance of this cotton-like foam in the Balsillas river, where the waste water from Bogota, seven kilometers away, flows. .

Unusually heavy rains this year and poor waste management have compounded the problem.

Several quarries, flower farms and residential areas in the suburbs of Bogota discharge their waste without treatment in the Balsillas, warns the Corporación Autónoma Regional de Cundinamarca (CAR), the environmental authority of the region.

Moss has already blocked the road to the local school.
