A few months before the 2024 Olympic Games, the proliferation of pests such as bedbugs, rats and tiger mosquitoes is of great concern to health authorities. An alarming situation.

For the 2024 Olympics, Paris faces an invasion of thousands of undesirables. Among them, bedbugs, rats and even tiger mosquitoes. A cocktail that greatly worries professionals in the sector. “There is an explosion of epidemics, particularly in the West Indies and Latin America. We have three times more than in previous years. This dynamic is a vector of panic, of stress generally. With the Olympics we are going to have a problem with rats and with bedbugs due to the installation of urban composters which has already led to an increase in the rat population”estimates Nicolas Roux de Bezieux, co-founder of Badbugs.

Food available for rats

As the competition takes place in summer, the season should probably be favorable for the mass proliferation of these insects and rodents. “During the event, we will have a lot of food availability because people will eat sandwiches in the street, which will cause rats to look for food in broad daylight. And there will be an increase in bedbugs with the flow of tourists”he adds.
