Rising prices cause difficulties for the Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club says it will struggle to maintain support for existing programs in the next school year due to increased pandemic-related operating costs and rising food costs, notably.

The organization reports that these marked cost increases have a significant impact on its operations.

Breakfast Club President and CEO Tommy Kulczyk says spending on food, equipment and transportation is growing at a faster rate than revenue and a shortfall of a few million dollars looms. According to its projections, no new additional breakfast programs can be supported by the Club in a school in the next school year, even if the demand is growing.

Against this backdrop, Breakfast Club of Canada is launching a back-to-school fundraising campaign to continue supporting school nutrition programs.

The Club and its partners currently reach more than 580,000 children each morning in more than 3,500 school nutrition programs in Canada.

However, a few hundred schools are on the Club’s waiting list for such a program and the demand continues to increase.
