On Saturday February 26, the French government announced a discount of 15 to 18 euro cents per liter on the price of fuel at the pump, from April 1. This drop divides motorists in Montpellier (Hérault). For a full 60 litres, the bill will be reduced by 10.80 euros on average for drivers in mainland France.
Two weeks before the presidential election, some do not see it as just a boost. “It’s a bit like the upgrading of civil servants: it’s announcements before the elections”, said a motorist. The overall cost of fuel aid is 3 billion euros, financed by the State until July 31. This government rebate can be combined with the aid already applied by certain retail groups.
