Riots broke out on the evening of Thursday, November 23 in Dublin, a few hours after a knife attack which took place in the Irish capital. Blamed on far-right hooligans, this violence is linked to rumors about the supposed Algerian origin of the attacker.
Dublin (Ireland) experienced scenes of chaos on the evening of Thursday, November 23. In particular, a bus was set on fire and stores were looted. From 7 p.m., several hundred people took to the streets to demonstrate after a knife attack which had taken place a few hours earlier. Very quickly, clashes broke out in a neighborhood where an immigrant population lives. “We have a faction of completely crazy hooligans, driven by far-right ideology. This disruptive trend is engaging in serious violence”said an Irish police official.
Two people seriously injured in knife attack
This violence is linked to rumors about the origin of the man who attacked five people with a knife early in the afternoon. A five-year-old girl and a woman were seriously injured. The alleged attacker, aged around 50, was arrested. According to investigators, his action was isolated, ruling out any terrorist motive.
