While many French traders suffered damage during the riots that followed Nahel’s death, Olivia Grégoire, guest of “4 Vérités” on France 2, Wednesday July 5, returned to the measures put in place by the government to come to their aid during the summer sales period. “We are going to extend the sales for a week, until August 1st” instead of July 25, announced the Minister Delegate for SMEs, Trade, Crafts and Tourism. She also indicated that traders “who wish” will be able to open on Sunday 9 July.
“A few hundred million” euros of damage
The minister took stock of the damage, indicating that“just over 1,000 businesses were directly affected”. In details, “more than 400 tobacco bars”, “almost 400 bank branches”, “200 supermarket food stores”but also “sports shops, opticians, pharmacists” And “few hundreds” independent traders have been attacked. Asked about the cost of the damage caused, Olivia Grégoire indicated that her services are “still going up a number of numbers”in particular those of restaurateurs and hoteliers, before mentioning a bill for “a few hundred million” euros.
