(Montreal) What appears to be a workplace accident claimed the life of a 73-year-old man from the Matane region. He would have received an electric shock while he was doing pruning work in Rimouski, in the Bas-Saint-Laurent.

The event occurred Tuesday morning near Arthur-Buies Boulevard, in Rimouski. The emergency services were dispatched to the scene shortly before 9 a.m. following the discovery of a man found unconscious on private land, indicates the spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), Stéphane Tremblay.
“The man was doing pruning work behind a residence when he could have been electrified following contact with an electric wire,” said Mr. Tremblay. The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The victim’s family has been notified of the 70-year-old’s death.
An investigation by the Commission for Standards, Equity, Health and Safety at Work (CNESST) is underway in parallel with the investigation by the SQ.
Investigators went to the scene to understand the circumstances of the accident. For now, the event appears to be a work accident, said Mr. Tremblay, but the CNESST investigation is still ongoing, particularly with regard to the way of working.
