Richard Carapaz flies on this second part of Vuelta. The Ecuadorian won, on Saturday September 10, in Puerto de Navacerrada, the 20th and penultimate stage of the Tour of Spain 2022. He thus signs his third success on this 77th edition by beating Thymen Arensman (DSM) and Juan Ayuso ( UAE Team Emirates).
Escaped from the first kilometers of the day, Richard Carapaz was the strongest at the end of the 181 kilometers and the five passes listed in the mountain classification. In particular, he resisted the return of the peloton of favorites to win alone with the white jersey with blue dots as best climber.
Remco Evenepoel, in tears after crossing the line in sixth position, almost assured his victory in the general classification of this Vuelta. With a 2’05” lead over Enric Mas (Movistar) and 5’08” over Juan Ayuso, the rider from the Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl team should become, on Sunday in Madrid, the first Belgian to win a grand tour since Johan De Muynck in 1978.
