Review — “Unconventional,” Souldia

It is aptly titled, this 11th album by rapper Souldia. Unconventional : the most versatile of his discography. Eighteen songs that launch the listener on diametrically opposed tracks. That of the classic Souldia first, street columnist rapping with a knife between his teeth, anchoring his speech to current trends on the best of the album, drip (with Tizzo and Shreez), the most austere Issue (with Lost and Izzy S), the introspective and precious Between 2 dates (with brothers in arms Farfadet and Die-On). That of Souldia then softened, the “dealer of melodies” (he raps on Amnesia opening), which dares the pop chorus (amazing Big brother with Jay Scott!) and the love ballad (I Love You). Overall, the album is uneven, but still sincere: obviously, Souldia seeks less to try to promote its popularity (already great) than to avoid standing still and putting itself in danger by leaving its zone of comfort. Launch on the MTelus stage on June 16, as part of the Francos.
