Review of “Túnel Acústico” by Marcos Valle

An icon of modern Brazilian music, singer-songwriter Marcos Valle, in the 1960s and 1970s, reshaped samba and bossa nova by infusing them with a healthy dose of jazz, funk and disco, with a hint of of psyche-rock. He just turned 81, and that doesn’t show on his 23e studio album, a jovial and warm collection of grooves carried by the same voice as fifty years ago. Flashes of classic sound Samba ’68 of the Todo Dia Santo in opening, and further on the flow Palavras Tão Gentissome detours towards disco-funk, which he embraced a few years later, notably on Life Is What It Isa song composed while he lived in Los Angeles at the end of the 1970s. The rejuvenated orchestra gives spring to his groovesbut the legend has nevertheless reconnected with two old colleagues from the Azymuth orchestra, with whom he had recorded his masterpiece Temporary Forecast (1973). His concert scheduled for October 3 at La Tulipe was fortunately able to be relocated to the Fairmount theater.
