Review of the album “Revelation” by Leif Vollebekk

Sometimes you have to roll around for a long time for the light to shine, for the truth to be revealed. From Montreal to Budapest, from Woodstock to Los Angeles, Leif didn’t really look. He let himself be carried away, until the inevitable encounter that music allows. “ I’m on a boat and I’m out at sea », he dreams in Rock and Rollthe song that launches the album. “ There is no captain or maybe the captain is me »: waking dream. A Springsteen-style chorus gives the direction to follow. Follows Southern Starwith a piano for compass. All the music is down-to-earth and all the lyrics are elusive: the singer is in between, palpable and/or untouchable. Sometimes, as in Peace of Mindparadoxically, he gets agitated. Then calms down, in Surfer’s Journal. Like you never know when it’s happening: mysticism at the crest of the wave. THE blues awaits our man at the turn in Moondogthe soul leaves the body in a Sunset Boulevard Expedition poignant, melodic. And then the sun rises over the Pacific, the search continues, the album begins again.
