Review of the album “Rebelle” by Pat Martel

Let’s dare to use the cliché, it applies: the former members of Offenbach are truly immersed in rock. Without a record company, with only a handful of diehard companions for support, they don’t just hold on: they stand up. After the three volumes of acoustic performances by Johnny Gravel, here is Pat Martel, the drummer of the group from the last era (the one from the triumphant Forum with Plume), finally making way for the singer-songwriter he was in the shadows. It’s not a question here of reinventing the genre: Martel celebrates his blues-rock heritage, wholeheartedly. Literally. The word is in two titles: What is a heart for? And The color of your heart. THE riffs expected, the solos of shredding Archetypes are no less effective. Yes, rhymes not only telegraphed, but delivered. Not embarrassed, Pat devotes a whole song to the memory of who you are thinking of: For you Gerry. With sampling of the voice he had. Why not? It belongs to him, to the gang survivors, Breen Leboeuf, Jim Zeller, Carl Tremblay, Pascal Mailloux and company. All at the proud meeting.
