Reventin-Vaugris, a village threatened by Vinci Autoroutes according to its elected officials

Drivers who have passed through Reventin-Vaugris, between Vienne and Roussillon since Saturday, may have noticed a change. On the village entrance and exit signs, the name of the commune has been changed. Now you can read “Revinssi-Vaugris town annexed“.

This is in fact the result of an action by elected officials this weekend to protest against the Vinci Autoroutes project, which wishes build an interchange from the nearby A7 motorway in the middle of the village. The goal: to relieve Vienna, which is currently overloaded with cars.

In the morning, the mayor of Reventin-Vaugris (here standing) and her deputies and advisers held a public meeting to explain their approach and warn of the threat to the town.

However, such a project would have a considerable impact on the life of the village. “It’s the death of our community__, since if this work is carried out, we will have 10,000 vehicles in the very center of our village, including 600 heavy goods vehicles per day, which will pass by the houses, all our sports facilities. With all the problems of noise pollution, atmospheric pollution, and insecurity that poses“, laments Edith Ruchon, the mayor of Reventin-Vaugris. “It is today the only way of access, how in these conditions will it be possible to reach the village? This is what makes us particularly angry“.

The town hall proposes a variant to the project

The elected official with the impression of not being listened to, in particular by the prefecture, while her municipality proposes an alternate solution : “We are not opposed to this equipment per se. We oppose its location. We are ready to sit around the table if anyone wants to hear us. Since 2017, we have been tirelessly offering the possibility of setting up on our territory but at a distance of 1.2-1.5 kilometers, where there are no local residents and we face refusals from Vinci systematically“.
