In Sainte-Anne (La Réunion), off the coast, a fascinating spectacle unfolds. The whales approach very close to the boats, allowing themselves to be observed by captivated 6th graders. “It’s incredible, it’s unforgettable, it’s unimaginable”rejoices Wanderley, a 6th grade student at the Quartier Français Lucet Langenier college.

An exceptional marine biodiversity in Reunion

The month of July is the southern winter in Reunion, and the breeding season for whales. This school outing is the culmination of a long journey. The students won the competition for the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco. They worked all year on the protection of nature. Off the coast of Réunion, marine biodiversity is exceptional. More than 20 species of cetaceans are present on the coasts, including these whales which will return to Antarctica after October.
