In Ukraine, director Anatoly Levchenko returned to the stage in kyiv. A rebirth, after having experienced the bombing of his theater in Mariupol and being taken prisoner by the Russians.

Getting back on the boards, as an act of resistance. In kyiv (Ukraine) Anatoly Levchenko revives for the first time his theater company founded in Mariupol (Ukraine). Russian bombings destroyed the drama theater in which they worked there two years ago. Anatoly found himself a prisoner of the Russians for ten months.

More than an artistic gesture

Bringing the troupe back to life today goes further than a simple artistic gesture. “Our nine actors are currently studying at drama schools in Ukraine, and are all from Mariupol. So when people tell me why it is important to revive this theater, I say that even if you don’t think that the theater itself is important and it comes from Mariupol, you should at least think about the fate of these young actors”, explains the Ukrainian director. In the small room, spectators are transported by the black comedy, a welcome remedy for despair.
