Five years after the passage from 90 to 80 km / h on country roads, most French departments are ironed 10 per hour above.

In 2018, Edouard Philippe decided to go from 90 to 80km/h on country roads. But immediately, the measure is contested, in particular by the Yellow Vests and at the first Great Debate, Emmanuel Macron backtracks on the question. Five years later, almost half of the departments have gone back to 90 on all or part of their roads. Some drivers are even fooled, forgetting from one department to another, if the speed on the nationals is 80 or 90.

A gain of one second per kilometer

In Calvados, the debate is still raging, 28 roads over 5,500 kilometers of network have been reduced to 90. However, increasing the speed by 10 km/h saves only one second per kilometer. The studies are formal but elected officials prefer to stick to the feelings of motorists. However, the League against road violence still warns of the dangers of 90 per hour, especially for cyclists on the sides of the roads.
