(New York) San Francisco Giants wide receiver Buster Posey and powerful Baltimore Orioles slugger Trey Mancini won the Major Baseball Comeback of the Year award on Monday night.
National winner Posey did not play in 2020, after he and his wife adopted two prematurely born daughters. He announced earlier in November that he was retiring after 12 seasons in Major League Baseball.
Mancini, winner in the American, meanwhile missed the entire 2020 season after being treated for stage 3 colon cancer. He and Posey were selected in a ballot made with journalists covering the 30 teams for the Major League Baseball website.
The 34-year-old Posey maintained a .304 batting average with 18 home runs and 56 produced last season. It was his highest batting average since 2017 and his highest home run total since 2015.
At 29, Mancini was batting .255 with 21 long balls and 71 RBIs. He slammed the 100e circuit of his career on June 20, at his 531e career match, becoming the Orioles player to reach that plateau the fastest in team history.
