Return of the Montreal Latin American Film Festival

After taking a break in 2023, the Montreal Latin American Cinema Festival will be back for its 12the editing. A celebration of the best films from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Mexico and Spain, the FCLM will present thirteen feature films, eight of which are directed by women.


Among the films presented at FCLM are the opening film, Totem, by Lila Avilés, where we follow a 7-year-old girl who sees her world collapse on her father’s birthday. The film was submitted to the Oscars to represent Mexico. Besides, The infinite memory, by Chilean Maite Alberdi, nominated in the best documentary category at the Oscars, will also be screened. The director focuses on the daily life of a couple whose husband suffers from Alzheimer’s disease.

Presented in a special screening at the last Cannes Film Festival, Ghost portraits (Retratos Fantomas), documentary by Brazilian Kleber Mendonça Filho, invites viewers on an impressionistic and multidimensional journey to Recife, capital of the state of Pernambuco.

The most patient moviegoers won’t want to miss Trenque Lauquen, from Argentina Laura Citarella; Lasting 4 hours 22 minutes, the feature film features two men who go in search of a colleague who has mysteriously disappeared. Finally, from Colombia comes to us A male (A minnow), by Fabian Hernández, where a boy living in a youth shelter in Bogota wants to spend Christmas with his mother and sister.
