The health protocol is getting tougher as the All Saints’ holidays return to work, while the resumption of the coronavirus epidemic is confirmed. From Monday, children from 39 additional departments will have to find the mask reflex to go to school.
From Monday, November 7, many schoolchildren will have to wear the mask again in the 39 new departments which are added to the 22 already affected by the measure. The official list will be communicated on the evening of November 3. These are the departments where the incidence rate is greater than 50 cases per 100,000 for five consecutive days.
The return of the mask to school is a justified measure according to the Academy of Medicine. “The virus is coming back and winter is here, which favors respiratory infections”, explains Christine Rouzioux, professor of virology at Paris-Descartes. Teachers, for their part, fear that the yoyo effect will be counterproductive. “This will ultimately lead to a relaxation of the wearing of the mask”, says Guislaine David, SNUipp-FSU general secretary. Should the incidence rate be the only scale? The debate is not new. From the start of the school year and for the next few weeks, the question of the return of the mask to school will be raised as the epidemic progresses.
