return of specialty tests in June, “it will be a very heavy workload for teachers and students”, deplores a union

The general secretary of the Snes-FSU union fears “a very heavy workload for teachers and students”. Regarding the internships to be carried out in second year, she warns of the risk of inequalities that this could create.

Unlike the last session, the specialty tests for the 2024 baccalaureate will take place this time in June, from Wednesday 19 to Friday 21, as Franceinfo revealed this Thursday. “The fact that the ministry did not listen to us on the necessary program reductions poses a problem”explains Sophie Vénétitay, general secretary of the Snes-FSU union (National Union of Secondary Education).

The risk of “penalizing the most vulnerable”

From now on, the major oral will take place at the same time as the written and this overlap will complicate things. “Certainly, we have tests coming up in mid-June, but with a program that remains extremely heavy, while we will have to prepare for the written tests and the oral tests head-on. So we still have some doubts about the ability to prepare well for both tests. It will be a very heavy workload for teachers and students”explains the unionist.

She continues: “We do not have hours dedicated to the preparation of the grand oral, we do it during our class hours and therefore, during the same class hours, we will have to prepare the written tests and the oral tests with elements of content and form.” A situation that will “penalize the most vulnerable”according to her.

“A lot of questions”, about second year internships

Second year students will have to complete a two-week internship, from June 17 to 28, 2024, franceinfo has learned. A decision which is part of the government’s desire to “reconquer” the month of June. In principle, the general secretary of the Snes-FSU union, Sophie Vénétitay, guest of franceinfo on Thursday, is not opposed to it, but “It remains to be seen how it will be implemented. Today, there are still a lot of questions and in particular the fear that it could worsen inequalities.”

For the trade unionist, “we must be careful that these students do not enter into competition with high school students in the professional track who are at the same time on an internship, and this is also very important for them. And then, we know that in research internships, not all students leave with the same tools, do not leave with the same weapons. There are students who have parents with a more extensive address directory than the others. And so, it will still go we have to be careful that this search for an internship does not result in inequalities, which would result in there being students who would go to do their internships, to make it quick, at the local kebab shop and others who would go to a practice lawyers.”
