Resumption of service on the green metro line

Montreal metro users were evacuated from their train a little before 9:30 p.m. on Friday evening, while the Société de Transport de Montréal (STM) announced an interruption of service on the green line.

The presence of an irritant gas at Atwater station forced the STM to trigger the emergency ventilation protocol and temporarily stop the metro between Angrignon and Peel stations.

The service was interrupted a little after 9 p.m. until 9:52 p.m. on the green line. For a total duration of approximately 45 minutes.

“In such situations, our protocols require the evacuation of trains as well as certain stations, to allow for emergency ventilation,” the company said by email Saturday morning.

“We cannot confirm the exact nature of the gas, but it appears to be similar to pepper spray,” added spokesperson Kevin Bilodeau.

There were no injuries.
