Several European states are lifting health restrictions despite Covid-19 contamination records. This is the case of France, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Austria and the Netherlands, to varying degrees. If Austria has only deconfined its non-vaccinated, Denmark has announced the lifting of all its internal restrictions on February 1.

In France, while the thresholds of 500,000 new cases and 400 deaths were crossed in the week of January 24, government spokesman Gabriel Attal confirmed the lifting of restrictions. “This Omicron variant, because it is less severe and also because we have a very high vaccination coverage, is very far from having the same effects on the hospital, on the intensive care units, as what we had observed with the previous variants, and in particular the Delta variant“, he justified. Some doctors denounce measures that are more political than health, out of step with the reality on the ground.
