An investigation for “discrimination based on origin, ethnicity or nationality” has been opened against a Parisian restaurant, the Paris prosecutor’s office told AFP on Friday July 22. Broadcast on the TikTok social network, a video accuses establishment of racism. It shows several black people being denied access by a bouncer, while similarly dressed white people enter without difficulty.

“But we’re dressed in evening wear! It’s a joke! (…) What should I have worn?”exclaims one of the three women. Stunned, one of them films white people entering the establishment without difficulty while other black people are denied access. “But it shocks me, it exists for real…”she laments.

The Manko restaurant, located on the very chic avenue Montaigne, at the foot of the Champs-Elysées in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, reacted on Wednesday on his Instagram account, apologizing to customers. “Manko respects a charter of values ​​that advocates equality, respect, tolerance and kindness”ensures the establishment, announcing that “the necessary sanctions were taken immediately and permanently”.

The investigation for discrimination based on origin, ethnicity or nationality in the offer or supply of a good or service has been entrusted to the Brigade for the repression of delinquency against the person (BRDP) , said the prosecution. The video, along with the caption “My first experience of racism”, had been viewed more than 650,000 times by Friday afternoon.
