Respiratory viruses | The triple epidemic is subsiding in Quebec

The triple epidemic of respiratory viruses continues to subside in Quebec. Both influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and COVID-19 show a downward trend.

Influenza A continues to decline since the beginning of December. Only 3.5% of screening tests carried out in the past week were positive. This is well below the rate of 27% reached a month and a half ago.

After a slight upturn during the holidays, the RSV is also showing a downward trend. Thus, 4.8% of screening tests carried out over the past week were positive.

As for COVID-19, it also seems to be regressing after a brief burst during the holidays. For the past week, 9.3% of screening tests have been positive, compared to 13% at the end of December.

Moreover, the burden of COVID-19 on Quebec hospitals continues to decline. On Saturday, Quebec counted 1,946 people hospitalized who tested positive, down 10% over one week. Of these, 659 patients were hospitalized directly due to their COVID-19 infection, the others having been admitted for another reason.
