Some Jean-Talon voters have doubts about the reasons given by the caquiste Joëlle Boutin to justify her resignation.

Nine months after her re-election in the fall of 2022, the MP will leave office at the end of the month for family and professional reasons. She will return to work in the private sector.
“I am not sure. Family reasons, there are too many. I do not believe it. Family has never stopped me even though I have never been an MP. She knew that before she introduced herself. It’s disappointing. That’s really not a good reason. It’s time that we still lose and it is expensive, ”said Françoise Lemieux.

An issue
Other voters were more understanding. “I can understand that work-family balance is an issue for women in politics. It gives the opposition the opportunity to be stronger. It’s a good thing”, mentioned Geneviève Noiseux.
“It pains me a lot,” said a trader who preferred to remain anonymous.
On the sidewalk, a couple also admitted that they were not disappointed by Ms. Boutin’s decision. The member had herself been elected in a partial following the resignation of Sébastien Proulx, less than a year after the general election of 2018.
“We are tough in the county! We are not caquiste. Provided it’s not the CAQ. Anybody goal the CAQ!”, specified Bruno Michaud.

“Just because she didn’t have a minister’s post. I think maybe she was disappointed. We don’t know if he was promised anything. It’s a shame,” added Louise Boisvert.

Not a star
Several people also replied that they knew the MP very little or not at all. Finally, some do not hide their cynicism towards politics. Disillusion or low confidence in elected officials is very real.

“That’s the first excuse. After nine months, it is sure that we ask ourselves questions. I don’t know what shenanigans happened in the party. In politics, they can say what they want and then they can withdraw. We believe in it less than before,” explained Pierre Cliche, who continues to vote despite everything.
