residents of Barcelona and Châteaudouble urged to save water

Valence Romans Agglo calls on the inhabitants of Barcelona and of Chateaudouble in the plain of Valence to vigilance over their water consumption. “We ask you to limit your uses to strict consumption and hygiene” indicates the community in a press release issued on Monday.

Residents are asked to reduce their consumption as much as possible – Maxime Durand, director of Eau de Valence Romans

The low speeds are confronted with larger print runs. “Demand is 30 to 40% higher than normal in these municipalities for similar months” says Maxime Durand, director of Eau de Valence Romans. “We have users who had private sources dry, who refer to the public network. We also have occupied secondary houses. Demand has increased, the resource has fallen. The equation is complicated for us” he develops.

If the situation is still tense, we will have to take more drastic measures: limiting the flow rates at the outlet of the reservoirs, therefore lower water pressures for these subscribers

The eastern sector of the agglomeration is mainly fed by springs from the Vercors. Low rainfall has weakened levels. “We have municipalities that are interconnected in relief to the water union of the plain of Valence, which are asking for water today. It’s water that comes from sources located at Peyrus. These are sources that generally give a flow of 300 to 400 m3 / hour. Today, we are at 43 m3 / hour. It’s almost ten times less than the classic throughput” explains Guillaume Arama, from the regional management of Véolia Eau Center Est.

For the moment, the call for this increased vigilance concerns approximately 1,200 inhabitants. If the situation does not improve, the municipalities of Chabeuil and Montélier will in turn be affected. And the restrictions will be much more restrictive. “We will have to take even more drastic measures: limiting the flow rates at the outlet of the reservoirs” warns Maxime Durand.
