“Overwhelmingly, we are not in favor of tabling a motion of censure. The situation is serious enough today for us not to add a major political crisis to a social crisis”said Friday March 17 on franceinfo Annie Genevard, general secretary of the Republicans and deputy of Doubs.
However, the MP admitted that some LRs might be tempted to sign a motion of no confidence: “They can do it because everyone has the freedom to act according to their conscience. I doubt there are enough Republican MPs who join in signing a motion of no confidence to bring down the government”she pointed out.

“The line of the Republicans on this issue is clear. Eric Ciotti recalled it. He is not in favor of us voting for a motion of censure. We are not in favor of bringing down the government, of provoking a political crisis , to add chaos to chaos”she said.
What will happen to the deputies who vote for a motion of censure to overthrow the government? “We will see what happens on Monday. Who will vote. There is a majority opinion within our group and everyone will take their responsibilities. We are not here to say that we are going to cut off heads”she explained.
Republicans “divided”
Annie Genevard “deeply regret” the absence of a vote to adopt the pension reform: “Certainly, the Republicans were divided. I do not want to deny, but a majority of votes in the LR group in the National Assembly was in favor of this text. So the government cannot pass its own difficulties on to others” . He “does not have the full number of votes at home either”, she pointed out.
MP LR denounced “the distressing spectacle in the National Assembly and in the streets of several of our cities”. Opposition deputies slammed the desks and sang the Marseillaise during Elisabeth Borne’s speech to the National Assembly on Thursday afternoon. In addition, after the announcement of the use of 49.3 by the government, several spontaneous gatherings ended in clashes in several cities in France.
