Donald Trump: the Republican candidate elevates the Capitol insurgents to heroes
(France 2)
As the United States presidential campaign began, Donald Trump publicly showed his support for the insurrectionists who launched the assault on the Capitol.
Donald Trump, who will be a candidate for the next American presidential elections, shows unwavering support for the insurgents who launched an assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Since the attack which cost the lives of a police officer and three rioters, hundreds of people were sentenced to prison terms of up to 22 years. But for his campaign, Donald Trump is trying to rewrite the story of the assault and designates the attackers as “January 6 hostages”.
No remorse three years later
The Trumpists erect them as the new heroes of the United States. One of the insurgents is now seeking a term in Congress: Derrick Evans, real estate agent and father of four children. He was on the front line of the January 6 assault. With his phone, he filmed himself forcing the barriers that separated him from the Capitol with a helmet on his head. He was then seen entering the building. Sentenced to three months in prison for inciting the crowd to force entry, he today expresses no remorse.
