Sexual violence in politics: “As long as there is no conviction, we do not have to withdraw political responsibility”
“As long as there is no condemnation, we do not have to withdraw political responsibility from a man and a woman. When there is condemnation, things are different“, assures Maud Brégeon, spokesperson for the Renaissance movement. “In the case of Minister Damien Abad, there is no investigation, prosecution or conviction. The complaints were dismissed, which means that the justice system did not find any grounds for possible criminal proceedings.“, adds the legislative candidate.
The Renaissance spokesperson believes that “the fight against violence against women” will only move forward if “is part of the rule of law”. According to Maud Bregeon, the previous government has already taken measures in this direction, such as the training of police officers, or the filing of complaints outside the walls of the police station, and “encourage all women who are victims to go to court”.
Maud Bregeon also mentioned on franceinfo, the indictment of the Minister of Justice, Éric Dupond-Moretti, for illegal taking of interests. She considers it to be “fully legitimate to exercise the function which is his” since he “is not condemned”. “Neither you nor I are the judge”says the Renaissance spokeswoman, who also believes that Éric Dupont-Moretti is “a very good Keeper of the Seals”and that it was “effective for two years”.
