Report of possible drowning | Body recovered in Verdun

(Montreal) A body was recovered Friday, around 10 p.m., near Verdun beach, in the Montreal borough of Verdun, by divers from the Montreal Police Department (SPVM).

The body had been spotted earlier in the evening by the Montreal Fire Department (SIM) and the SPVM, who were looking for a missing person.

The search was launched after emergency services were alerted, around 4:45 p.m., of a possible drowning, reports the SPVM.

The SIM, with the help of the Montreal police, then began a search, dispatching two boats from the nautical service to find the person.

It was finally around 8 p.m. that a body was spotted near the beach, the SIM said. The help of SPVM divers was therefore requested to recover the body in question in order to identify it and determine if it was indeed the missing person.

The emergency services are not yet able to provide the identity of the man in his early twenties, the SIM said.

The SIM reminds that it is essential to swim in areas supervised by lifeguards and to respect the limits of supervised swimming areas. Similarly, the service strongly recommends that people using recreational boats wear a life jacket.
