>> “Intellectual professions will be threatened in the future”: in Courbevoie, a company cuts 217 jobs, replaced by artificial intelligence

In a press release published last Friday, the management of the company based in Courbevoie (Hauts-de-Seine), defends the implementation of a project which “was not decided lightly” and believes that new tools and technologies will provide faster and more reliable service.

“In fact, we didn’t see the toolsays Sylvain, 20 years of seniority, today responsible for sales administration and CFE-CGC union delegate. It is said to be under development. Our positions are suppressed in relation to intelligence, but not the ounce of a viewing of any tool… Somehow, that makes us doubt. We wonder where they want to go.”

“A historic turning point”

This job protection plan, employees expected it but “of such magnitude, of such violence, which concerns the entire production department, that is to say, from the simple technician to the director, we really did not expect that”, continues Sylvain. Employees stunned and angry after what is, according to Bruno, FO delegate, reader-verifier for 22 years, the first social plan justified by artificial intelligence in France: “What we are experiencing today is truly a historic turning point. We really have the feeling of being the first in a long list.”

“The legislator, the companies, will have to think about this choice: what society, what economies and what future businesses they want to leave to future generations,” raises the trade unionist.

Negotiations between unions and management on the departure conditions of the 217 dismissed employees will begin next Tuesday.
