With the ecological bonus, but also the possibility of having your device repaired when it is no longer under warranty, the repair of household appliances is simplified in Europe.

The water leak from a washing machine has just been repaired in a workshop in Trappes (Yvelines). Its owner is delighted, he was able to benefit from the ecological bonus of 50 euros. The requests are pouring in. “The main obstacle today is the lack of technical resources to be able to repair”, explains the workshop director, who is struggling to recruit. To strengthen the sector, Europe will require manufacturers to make spare parts available at an affordable price.

Avoid 35 million tonnes of waste per year

A platform, which will provide information on repairers, should appear. “Quotes will allow consumers to compare offers”, indicates Anne-Charlotte Bonjean, resource sustainability coordinator at the Environment and Energy Management Agency (Ademe). Even beyond the warranty date, manufacturers will have to ensure repairs. The aim is to avoid 35 million tonnes of waste in the European Union each year.
