After reopening Thursday to light vehicles, the Touzel bridge, which connects Minganie to the rest of Quebec, can be used as of Saturday by semi-trailers transporting fuel and by unit trucks of less than 28 tons.
However, the bridge will be closed in the morning, from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., to allow the dismantling of the hose installed earlier this week to ensure the supply of fuel to the communities east of the bridge, said the Ministry of Transport and of Sustainable Mobility in a press release. Traffic will alternate, as has been the case since the reopening on Thursday to vehicles weighing less than 4,500 kg.
The Touzel bridge, which overlooks the Sheldrake River in Rivière-au-Tonnerre, was closed on May 30 for an initially indefinite period after a formal inspection. A crack was then discovered on the metal structure of the bridge, making traffic potentially risky in the eyes of the authorities.
The air bridge in place for passengers will be maintained until Sunday and that allowing to supply the communities will remain in place as long as necessary, said the Ministry.
He also recalls the importance of respecting the load limit authorized on the bridge, as well as the instructions of the flagmen.
