Fabre and D’Iberville stations, on the blue line of the Montreal metro, will reopen at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning. However, the Saint-Michel station remains closed for an indefinite period.
The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) explained Wednesday morning that it managed to find a way to reverse the metro trains from D’Iberville station, which allows it to limit the closure announced last week. last week at Saint-Michel station only.
Last Thursday, the STM announced that significant damage to a main beam located above the tracks at Saint-Michel station was forcing the closure of this station, for safety reasons.
And since there was no other place available to allow the trains which continued to serve the rest of the blue line to be turned around, the Fabre and D’Iberville stations had to be closed as well.
The STM, however, indicated on Wednesday that it had succeeded in making technical modifications to its signaling and control systems to allow turnaround maneuvers from D’Iberville station.
Everything took a few days, since she first had to “design these modifications to the systems which were not initially designed for this purpose, validate them and ensure the security of the premises to allow her employees to access them in complete safety.”
“Considering the exceptional situation, the STM acted promptly to allow the reopening of the two stations,” maintained the transport company.
The bus shuttle service will be maintained between the D’Iberville and Saint-Michel stations.
Concerning the closure of the Saint-Michel station, it remains in effect for an indefinite period.
“To date, engineering teams have collected data from the site and initiated the design of interventions. This design continues. The next step will be to carry out the work,” said the STM, which will provide a more precise schedule when more information is available.
