[Rentrée culturelle] The Rush of Records

Return. The word has something outdated, one thinks of a line of students, an arm’s length between each, a little feverishness, but contained. To speak of the fall return to records seems to designate another era in the same way, that of each in turn, that of the living space for an arrival in the world, each album having its window, its occasion.

That time is over. We went from each in turn to each-for-himself: the start of the school year was compressed into a rush. Come on, let’s start, quickly, right away. The public relations experts no longer know where to give the press release, the windows of the media are smashed, brand new records are already trampled on, ignored. We draw up the list of yesterday’s victims. How many arrivals in store (or on various digital platforms) on Friday, September 9? What happened to the new Mountain Daisies and sound SimpleStuff, first record destined for America as a whole and launched at the Festival western de Saint-Tite? Of Narcissus and of The end never comes never ? And others? We forget about it. Scramble, bottleneck. It was Friday. Yesterday. The past.

Forgotten futures, lack of space

Let’s look ahead. A date, only one, say September 16th. That day, the veteran Rene Lussier present To hell with greensure and certain that we will talk about it, because the work of the creator of the language treasure is worthy of listening, of mention, of interview, of substantial text. But only then, on the same day, more or less simultaneously, arise Elizabeth Balcus and his Hotel Universethe rapper Mantissa and his blind manalbums by Beausejourof Verandaof Debbie Tebbs. Oh yes, and the Chic North of the group Mordicus (show-launch on the 17th, but publication on the 16th). Note that between the 9th and the 16th, if we calculate correctly, there are seven days. Discs will be launched: the first of the Gaspé Mylene Vallee ; the group mentana (disc released upstream, good idea) will have HIS show-launch at the Ministry.

September, once the first sorting is done (it’s crazy: we determine in advance of whom we run the risk of saying nothing), it’s also offerings of Jason Bajada, Sally Folk (an aptly named review EP: Replicas), Caroline Savoy, Lydia Kepinski. Still happy that we took a little lead on the side of the Bibi-Club : his album is a star of the season and his show-launch will take place in full rush.

Vertigo ? It crumbles at the edge of the cliff. It’s not like we sit back in the rest of the world. We have less the feeling of a rush, the planetary industry still keeping its flock in line and respecting the game plan. Let us mention all the same, in September alone, a marlon williams more than expected, the return ofOzzy Osbournethe first solo album by a certain Marcus Mumford not exactly unknown to the battalion and the new Bjork, to name a few. Let’s add a Daniel Lanoisas unique as the title suggests: Player, Piano. And, directly from France to a world destination, unmissable and unclassifiable, Christine and The Queens reappears under a new name (Redcar) with a more than attractive record: The adorable stars.

These albums that let themselves be desired

Note. We are in the sixth paragraph and we have not underlined with deserved broad strokes the major publications of the new school year, in the old sense of the term. These albums whose unveiling process is still subject to proven know-how. After the Richard Seguinin stores since Friday (the same Friday as the hurries of the second paragraph), it will be necessary to wait until October (wait, yes, wait, this word from another time) the eighth album of Catherine Durandentitled The orphan house.

One week before Belanger. Daniel Belanger which is now under the sign of Secret City Records, a big step for the native of Audiogram. The album responds to the sweet name of Mercury in May, it mixes us a little in our dates, but it is an understatement to say that the wait will be rewarded. Let us slip in passing that the Midnights of Taylor Swift will be revealed at about the same time, but it has no great impact on our Daniel.

Big names of the season? There are a few other October releases no less healthily experienced in the prospect of happy reunions in time and place: two albums of duets, one of Milk & Bone (Chrysalism) and the other of Boulay sisters (escape the night). Later it will be time to warm up, and the return of Chloe Sainte-Marie (a book-disc, Damn silence) will do good, even where it hurts. From further still will arrive to us FranceCastel, who again says hello to the song. And reciprocally.

At the rhythm of nature

Let us mention with great enthusiasm the new album by Rosie Valland, which will also have its moment. It would also be nice if the second album of the amazing Duu (Étienne Dupré in civilian life) finds a little space in the crowd of those who we should know better: a musician in great demand (he is currently touring with Klô Pelgag around the world), he is also a songwriter- performer, and his Arboretum will be ready in October for the official visit. In the same patient way, After the rainthe band’s first full-length album cosmophone, will only be discovered after the last leaves have fallen. Which makes sense, after all: the opposite of the rush. It grows when it grows, and it rains when it rains.

Autumn will have finally imposed its rhythm. Think it will be November when the record comes to us Dutronc and Dutronctestifying to the improbable and yet so natural reunion between dad James and son Thomas. Just before we caulk the windows and go home for good, we’ll sing It’s five o’clock, Paris is waking up in Eastern Daylight Time.
