With inflation, some rents have been revalued. Some are calling for rental prices to be frozen. But the owners say they are also affected by inflation.

With inflation, rental prices rise. The receipts of some were reassessed on Thursday, May 19. “It increased by 15 euros per month“, notes a woman. The rent can be revised once a year, based on a reference index. This follows the course of consumer prices and increased by 2.48% in the first quarter of 2022. This This increase can then be passed on to the rent. For example, a three-room apartment at 700 euros can increase to 717.35 euros per month, or 208 euros more in one year.

The National Housing Confederation is asking the State to freeze rents. But this request is considered unfair by the representatives of the owners. “The owners are also affected by inflation on the one hand when their income drops (…) they are also subject to inflation on property taxes, on charges and work“, argues Pierre Hautus, Director General of the National Union of Real Estate Property (UNPI).
