Renowned British conductor Andrew Davis, who showcased his talent on three continents, including North America, at the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, has died. He was 80 years old.
Andrew Davis died Saturday at the Rusk Institute in Chicago from leukemia, his manager, Jonathan Brill of Opus 3 Artists, said Sunday.
The musician suffered from the disease for about two years, but it worsened shortly after he turned 80e birthday, February 2.
Andrew Davis was music director of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra from 1975 to 1988 and of the Glyndebourne Festival in the United Kingdom from 1988 to 2000.
He then served as conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra from 1989 to 2000 before serving as music director of the Lyric Opera of Chicago until 2021.
He led the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America in workshops last summer, at Carnegie Hall in New York, and ultimately on tour.
