Real estate: renovating your house yourself, an attractive trend

To save money, French people go so far as to build or renovate their house themselves. Given the price of raw materials, inflation and excessively high credit rates, more and more people are taking the plunge.
Far from vacation photos and glamorous portraits, the site visit is a bit of a new trend on social networks. There are hundreds of them completely renovating their homes on their own and sharing the progress of the work on the Internet. Tearing everything out, spraying the plaster on the walls, drilling, fixing, all these actions no longer scare Pauline and Antoine. They started renovating an old farmhouse a year and a half ago. “We don’t go on vacation or on weekends, we see our friends a little less”, she explains. They bought their building for 250,000 euros. If they chose to carry out the work alone, it is to have a house that suits them and to reduce their renovation budget.
More and more French people are resorting to self-renovation
Savings, provided you have time. In Gironde, Magalie and Stéphane are beginning their 7th year of work. They left their jobs for this project. To learn, they relied on the numerous videos posted online by other enthusiasts and we ended up sharing their tips too. “If you don’t know how to do something, you just have to learn it, get informed, ask the right people and get started”, according to Magalie. Less financial aid, no insurance on the work, despite these obstacles, more and more French people are resorting to self-renovation.
