Rennes jumps, Lille regals, Lorient slows down … What to remember from Sunday’s matches

After the victories of Paris in Ajaccio, Lyon in Montpellier, and Lens in Marseille, in the first three matches of the twelfth day of Ligue 1, two new teams won away on Sunday, October 23. Brest and Rennes return to Brittany with three points in their pocket, while their neighbor Lorient only got the point from the draw in Troyes. For their part, Nice and Nantes failed to decide. Reims and Lille are the only two teams to win at home.

The good deal: Rennes sees the podium

Stade Rennes remains in contact in the lead car of the championship, but the Bretons had to wait until the end of added time to bring back three points from their short trip to Angers (1-2). Relaunched in his new colors, Amine Gouiri opened the scoring (43rd), scoring a goal for the fourth consecutive game. But the Angevins equalized on the return from the locker room through Amine Salama (53rd). After the pouring rain, the Rennais were finally rewarded for their domination with a penalty scored by Lovro Majer (93rd). The Angevins thus concede a fourth consecutive defeat and recover the place of red lantern. The rest does not look easy for the SCO, which will meet Monaco, Lens and Lille before the break.

Fireworks to end the day

We could have said that the poster for the weekend was elsewhere, perhaps at the Vélodrome for the OM-Lens clash, but Lille-Monaco was clearly the most spectacular match. A total of seven goals were scored. At the end of a match which will have seen the two teams lead in the score, it is the Northerners who ended up taking the three points, winning 4-3.

The Mastiffs will have had the merit of never calculating, even after having offered two goals to their opponents in the evening, the goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier completely holed up on a free kick however badly taken by Caio Henrique (34th) and Tiago Djalo tangling the brushes all alone on the goal of Wissam Ben Yedder (53rd). Thanks to this second consecutive success, Lille’s Paulo Fonseca overtook Monaco to recover 6th place.

Brest finds the taste of success in Clermont

The Brestois pocket precious points in Auvergne, and with style (1-3). Despite a very good Mory Diaw in the Clermont goals, Pascal Gastien’s men suffered from the effectiveness of the Breton counterattacks. From the penalty spot, Romain Del Castillo opened the scoring for the Pirates (14th), before Franck Honorat (54th) and Jérémy Le Douaron (68th) widened the gap. Jim Allevinah allowed the Auvergnats to come back to the score at the very end of the match (89th), but they see their good series of three games without defeat (two wins and a draw) come to an end on Sunday. The Brestois, on the contrary, had been waiting for this success since August 21, the second of the season.

The Balogun-Ito pair carry Reims against Auxerre

In an important duel between poorly ranked, who recently dismissed their respective coach, it was Reims who pocketed the three points against Auxerre and gave themselves some air in the standings (2-1). The Rémois were able to count on their formidable offensive pair formed by Folarin Balogun and Junya Ito, who have now scored 11 of the 14 Champagne goals in Ligue 1 this season. Against Auxerre, Balogun opened the scoring (29th), then Ito gave victory to his team (86th), after M’Baye Niang (33rd) equalized for AJA. The Burgundians have not won a league match since the 4th day, against Strasbourg (1-0).

Troyes slows down Lorient

Launched on a series of six victories, the Lorientais are slowed down with a second consecutive draw, in Troyes (2-2). The Merlus scuttled themselves, offering two goals to the Trojans, with the opener against his side by Julien Laporte (33rd), then an uncertain back pass from Montassar Talbi towards his goalkeeper, intercepted by Rony Lopes (60th ). But even without their striker Terem Moffi, and while his replacement Ibrahima Koné came out stunned by a shock, the Lorient people managed to come back to score twice, thanks to Stéphane Diarra (49th) and Quentin Boisgard (80th). The Bretons miss the opportunity to regain PSG’s place as dolphin at the top of Ligue 1.

No dispute between Nice and Nantes

The remake of the last Coupe de France final failed to decide between Nice and Nantes (1-1). More than the content of the match or the goals from Ignatius Ganago (49th) and Nicolas Pépé (90+7), we will remember the stormy end of the match after François Letexier’s decision to award a penalty to Nice for a hand fault by Jean-Charles Castelletto. The latter had however refused to designate the penalty spot in the first period when Joe Bryan deflected a center with both hands, to the chagrin of the Canaries.

Strasbourg saves a point in Toulouse

The TFC can harbor regrets (2-2). While leading 2-0 on the hour mark against Strasbourg thanks to goals from Anthony Rouault (44th) and Brecht Dejaegere (55th), the Toulouse team were joined in the score after the good entry of Lebo Mothiba. The South African reduced the gap (65th), before causing a penalty by putting pressure on Rasmus Nicolaisen, excluded for a second yellow card. A penalty which Kévin Gameiro took care of, transformed in two stages after a stoppage by Maxime Dupé (73rd).
